Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, accessing, or using Hack n Roll (the "Platform"), you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.

These Terms form a binding agreement between you and the operator of Hack n Roll. References to "we," "us," or "Hack n Roll" mean the Platform operator, whether currently operated by an individual or by a legal entity.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Platform. If you are under the age required by applicable law in your country to enter into a binding agreement, you may use the Platform only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian who accepts these Terms on your behalf.

By creating an account or accepting these Terms, you confirm that you meet this age requirement (or that a parent or legal guardian has accepted these Terms for you where required) and that the information you provide is accurate.

3. Accounts

Hack n Roll is intended for individual participation. Each account must belong to one person. You may not share, sell, transfer, or allow others to use your account.

• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account.
• You must notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
• We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or our Community Guidelines.

You may close your account at any time from your account settings. See Data Retention for how we handle deletion.

4. Acceptable Use

Hack n Roll is an educational platform for ethical hacking and security learning. You may apply knowledge gained here only against systems you are explicitly authorized to test.

• Use the Platform for lawful, educational, and good-faith security research within authorized challenge environments.
• Do not attack, probe, or disrupt Hack n Roll infrastructure, other users, or any system outside the scope of an official challenge.
• Do not use the Platform to distribute malware, conduct denial-of-service attacks, or engage in unauthorized access to third-party systems.
• Do not upload or share illegal content, spam, or material that infringes the rights of others.
• Report security vulnerabilities through our Responsible Disclosure process, not through public exploitation.

You are solely responsible for how you apply skills and knowledge obtained on the Platform. Hack n Roll does not authorize or encourage activity against systems you do not own or have explicit permission to test.

5. Community Conduct

When participating in forums and discussions, you must follow our Community Guidelines. This includes treating other users and moderators with respect, posting in appropriate categories, and avoiding harassment, impersonation, or disruptive behavior.

6. Challenge Rules

All challenge activity is governed by our Challenge Rules. By submitting flags or participating in challenges, you agree to those rules.

• Flags and full solutions may be shared only in the official Solution thread for each challenge, after you have personally solved it.
• Official Solution threads are the place for flags and full spoilers after you have solved the challenge. Educational content elsewhere is allowed if it does not reveal flags, complete solutions, or significant spoilers.
• Techniques must be limited to authorized challenge environments; do not target Platform infrastructure or other participants.

7. User-Generated Content

You may publish, upload, or otherwise submit content through the Platform, including forum posts, comments, guides, articles, tutorials, and other community contributions ("User Content"). You retain ownership of your User Content.

You are solely responsible for any User Content you publish, upload, or otherwise submit through the Platform. Hack n Roll does not endorse, verify, monitor, or assume responsibility or liability for User Content posted by users, although we reserve the right to remove content that violates these Terms, our policies, or applicable law.

• You represent that you have the right to post your User Content and that it does not violate these Terms or applicable law.
• By publishing such content on Hack n Roll, you grant Hack n Roll a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, and perpetual license to host, display, distribute, archive, and otherwise use that content as needed to operate and improve the Platform.
• Hack n Roll may continue hosting and displaying content that remains on the Platform after account deletion or anonymization, as described in Data Retention. Authors remain free to publish the same content elsewhere. This license does not transfer ownership.

Community-submitted CTF challenges are not covered by this section. See User-Submitted Challenges below.

8. User-Submitted Challenges

Challenge authors retain ownership of challenges they create. Submission does not transfer ownership to Hack n Roll.

When a submitted challenge is accepted and officially published on Hack n Roll, the author grants Hack n Roll a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, non-exclusive license to publish, host, distribute, maintain, adapt, modify, and translate the challenge as part of the Platform.

That license applies only after acceptance and official publication. Rejected submissions are not licensed to Hack n Roll under this section. Unrelated projects by the same author are not affected.

After official publication, the author may not publish that challenge, or a substantially similar version of it, on another public CTF platform without our prior written permission.

• Authors may still receive attribution, identify themselves as the creator, include the work in portfolios, present it in talks, mention it in resumes, and use it for educational purposes.
• Submission does not guarantee acceptance. We may edit, adapt, or decline submissions at our discretion.
• Once published as an official challenge, the challenge materials are proprietary Platform content and are not licensed under the AGPL, regardless of the original author. See Licensing.

9. Intellectual Property

Platform source code that Hack n Roll makes available under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPL v3), including the public backend and frontend repositories, may be used under that license. Official challenge content (including descriptions, flags, infrastructure, and related materials) is proprietary and is not covered by the AGPL, regardless of whether a challenge was originally created by Hack n Roll or submitted by a community author. Branding and certain other materials are likewise proprietary. See Licensing and Open Source for full details.

You may not use Hack n Roll branding, logos, or trademarks without prior written permission.

10. Platform Availability

Hack n Roll is an evolving, community-driven educational project. Features, challenges, rankings, services, APIs, and content may change, improve, be removed, or become temporarily or permanently unavailable as the Platform develops.

We aim to keep Hack n Roll useful and welcoming, but we do not guarantee that every feature or piece of content will remain available indefinitely.

11. Enforcement

We will investigate violations of these Terms and take action we deem appropriate, including warnings, content removal, score adjustments, temporary suspension, or permanent termination of your account.

• Serious violations (such as attacks on Platform infrastructure, flag leaking, harassment, or illegal activity) may result in immediate termination without prior notice.
• We are not obligated to monitor all activity but reserve the right to do so to protect the community and the Platform.

12. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available" for educational purposes. We do not warrant uninterrupted, error-free, or secure operation.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator of Hack n Roll shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Platform, including loss of data, challenge progress, rankings, reputation, or any educational or professional opportunity.

Challenge environments are designed for learning. You assume all risk associated with techniques you choose to apply, including outside authorized contexts.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Legal documents are versioned, and changes are reflected in the "Last updated" date and version shown on this page. Hack n Roll records the version of legal documents accepted by each user.

Legal documents are versioned. Material changes may require renewed acceptance before you continue using some or all Platform features. Minor editorial or non-material changes do not require renewed acceptance. Until a renewed acceptance is required, continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms, except where applicable law requires otherwise.

14. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Brazil. Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or the Platform shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Brazil.
